Prince Adetunji, whose death has drawn condolences from across the country, was a respected entrepreneur and prominent member of the Ogunwusi family.
Before Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi ascended the throne as the Ooni of Ife in 2015, Prince Adetunji was among the princes who contested for the revered stool. He had previously disclosed that he entered the race after informing his younger brother of his intention, insisting that “the best man should win.”
Reports at the time described the contest between the two brothers as one of the keenest in the selection process. However, Prince Adetunji later explained that there was no rift between them, saying family interventions led him to step down in support of his younger brother’s emergence as the Ooni.
Following the announcement of his death, sympathisers have continued to extend condolences to the Ogunwusi family, the Ooni of Ife, and the people of Ile-Ife, describing Prince Adetunji as a distinguished businessman whose contributions to the private sector and his community would be remembered.
Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced by the family.
