The operator said the fake promotion was being circulated through various online platforms, with unsuspecting subscribers potentially exposed to attempts to obtain their personal information or money.
In a notice posted on its support account on X on Saturday, MTN urged customers to disregard unauthorised links and verify any anniversary-related offer through its recognised platforms.
The company said the authentic 25GB anniversary promotion was available exclusively through the MyMTN NG App and the MTN eShop.
MTN stated, “Please beware of fake MTN 25th Anniversary 25GB giveaway offers circulating online.
“The official MTN 25GB Anniversary Giveaway is available ONLY via the MyMTN NG App and MTN eShop.”
It warned subscribers against clicking on links from unverified sources, submitting personal details or paying money to access the supposed giveaway.
For customers who qualify for the promotion, the telecom firm said the offer could be redeemed by logging into the MyMTN App and selecting the “Redeem Now” option displayed on the anniversary banner.
It added that eligible subscribers could also visit the MTN eShop and follow the instructions provided to activate the bundle.
According to the company, subscribers who received an official SMS about the promotion could also use the link provided in the message to access the offer.
MTN urged customers to rely on information disseminated through its official communication channels to avoid falling victim to fraudulent anniversary promotions.
The company also disclosed that the 25GB bundle would only remain active until 11:59pm on the applicable expiry date, advising eligible customers to redeem it before the deadline.
The alert comes as misleading posts and links purporting to offer free MTN data continue to circulate online in connection with the company’s anniversary celebrations.
Subscribers were consequently advised to treat any platform demanding payment or sensitive personal information in exchange for the purported 25GB bonus with caution.
