The deceased, identified as Rev Nankur Peter Kundul, reportedly suffered the snakebite while working in the community and later died at the Sabon Gida Clinic.
A fellow pastor, Rinkyer Asaph, disclosed the incident in a post on Monday, raising concern over what he described as a growing threat from venomous snakes in the area.

Asaph said the death of Kundul was particularly disturbing because at least two other Christians had reportedly died from snakebites in the community within the past week.

“My heart is deeply saddened by the death of my friend, Pastor Nankur Peter Kundul of COCIN Boltim, Gamakai, who lost his life to a snakebite at the Sabon Gida Clinic,” he said.

He warned that the recurring incidents could have wider consequences for the community, which relies heavily on farming, as residents might become reluctant to enter their farmlands for fear of snake attacks.

Asaph urged the Plateau State Government and relevant health authorities to urgently investigate the situation, improve access to snakebite treatment and determine the factors responsible for the reported increase in venomous snakes.

“Another person must not die from a snakebite that could have been prevented or treated. Gamakai is facing an emergency that requires a swift and coordinated response from the authorities,” he added.
