Ado-Awaye Agog as Progressive Secondary Grammar School Alumni Roll Out Plans for 50th Anniversary

Ado-Awaye is set to come alive as old students of Progressive Secondary Grammar School prepare to celebrate the institution’s 50th anniversary with a series of activities scheduled for September 24 to 27, 2026.

According to a statement by the National Secretary of the Progressive Secondary Grammar School Alumni Association, Mogaji Soladoye Akeem Adewole, the four-day golden jubilee celebration will bring together alumni of the school from across Nigeria and the diaspora to commemorate the institution that, according to the organisers, played a significant role in shaping their lives.

Several activities have been lined up for the anniversary, with the Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology and other dignitaries expected to attend some of the programmes.

The Alado of Ado-Awaye, His Royal Majesty Oba Ademola Olugbile Folakanmi, Makunledoye II, himself an alumnus of the school, is also expected to add royal colour to the celebration alongside other traditional rulers.

The alumni association’s Chairman, Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, will attend the event with friends and members of the Board of Trustees.

A former Deputy Governor of Oyo State and indigene of Ado-Awaye, Chief Iyiola Oladokun, is also listed among the expected guests of honour.

The opening ceremony on Thursday, September 24, will feature a free health outreach for 200 residents of the town, while students of the school will benefit from a health talk on the effects and dangers of drug abuse.

Posthumous awards will also be presented to the school’s pioneer principal, late Mr. Akintola, and its second principal, Mr. David Babalola, father of Senator Gbenga Babalola.

Other activities lined up include the commissioning of projects, interaction with students, alumni get-together, presentation of awards to deserving staff and students, Jumat service and Thanksgiving service.

The association urged its members across the globe, as well as friends and well-wishers, to support the anniversary by donating generously towards the development of the school.
