The girl, identified as Amaechi and said to be an indigene of Ebonyi State, was reportedly discovered after the landlord became concerned that she had not been seen leaving the residence for some time.
Following the alarm raised by the landlord, operatives of the Abuloma Police Division visited the house on Monday, September 14, and allegedly found the teenager locked inside the toilet.

The circumstances surrounding her confinement remained unclear as of Tuesday, although a source alleged that the girl was being punished over an undisclosed offence.

The source further claimed that the teenager was given food only once a day while in confinement and had repeatedly appealed to her employers to let her out.

The police subsequently arrested the husband and wife who employed the girl as their domestic help and took her to safety, while efforts were made to contact her relatives.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Blessing Agabe, said the landlord's suspicion prompted the police intervention.

Agabe said, “It was the landlord that noticed that the girl had not been coming out of the house for some time. He suspected something and informed the police.”

She added that the couple remained in police custody as investigators worked to establish what led to the teenager's confinement, stressing that she would not be taken back to the residence.

According to the police spokesperson, the girl's family had been asked to come to the station, while the question of arraigning the suspects would be determined after the investigation.
