Wike Looked Happier, Healthier When We Worked Together – Peter Obi

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has recalled that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike appeared happier and healthier during the period they worked together.

Obi made the comment while responding to questions about Wike’s recent criticism of him and his presidential ambition during an online interview.

The former Anambra State governor said he had no personal grievance against Wike, despite the minister’s repeated comments about his political ambition.

Obi and Wike had crossed paths politically between 2011 and 2014 when Obi was Anambra governor and Wike served as Minister of State for Education.

During that period, Wike visited Anambra to inspect and commission education projects carried out by the Obi administration, including renovated secondary schools.

Recalling their time together, Obi said photographs from that period showed Wike as someone who appeared to be in good physical condition and in high spirits.

“If you look at the pictures of Mr Wike when we were moving together, you can see how healthy he is and looking very well,” Obi said.

He added, “So, that means when we were together, he was a much, much happier person and enjoyed himself.”

Obi stressed that his disagreement with Wike had not changed his view that the former Rivers State governor remained his friend.

“But let me assure you, I don’t have anything against Mr Wike. He remains a friend and everything,” he said.

The former governor also reflected on the relationship between material wealth and personal fulfilment, saying that financial success alone did not necessarily translate into happiness.

“Sometimes, you can have too much money and everything, but you don’t have happiness,” Obi added.

Wike, who served as governor of Rivers State before his appointment as FCT minister, has publicly criticised Obi’s political ambition on several occasions. He is currently serving in President Bola Tinubu’s administration and has expressed support for the President ahead of the 2027 election.
