Give Me More Time to Complete My Reforms — Tinubu to Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to give his administration more time to complete its ongoing reforms, saying his government is addressing mistakes and missed opportunities inherited from previous administrations.

The President made the appeal on Friday through the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, during a special Juma’at prayer at the National Mosque in Abuja.

The prayer was organised as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, which will be observed on October 1.

Tinubu said the country had endured a difficult journey since independence but maintained that Nigeria had also recorded important opportunities and progress along the way.

He described the 66th anniversary as evidence that Nigeria had reached a stage of political and national maturity.

According to the President, Nigerians should remain hopeful because his administration believes the country is moving towards greater peace and development.

“Peace is coming back to this country. Development is coming back to this country. Things will get better as we progress in this democracy,” he said in the message delivered by Abbas.

Tinubu also defended the direction of his administration, arguing that it was working to address accumulated problems left by previous governments.

He said the government was focused on correcting past mistakes while pursuing opportunities that, in his view, had not been fully utilised by earlier administrations.

The President further insisted that Nigeria was moving in the right direction and that citizens had already endured significant sacrifices.

He therefore urged Nigerians to allow his administration additional time to complete what it had started.

“We should give this government more opportunity for it to come back and finish the good work,” Tinubu said.

The appeal comes as Tinubu seeks another term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has lined up several events for the 66th Independence Anniversary, including a church service, public lecture and a nationwide broadcast by the President on October 1.

The special prayer in Abuja was attended by senior government officials, including Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, governors, National Assembly members, ministers, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume and military chiefs.
