The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed October 9, 2026, for the commencement of Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general election.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, announced the date on Monday in Kaduna during the commission’s North-West Zonal Interactive Meeting with Staff and Readiness Assessment for the 2027 elections.
The commission said more than 10.7 million Nigerians were added to the voter register during the latest registration exercise.
Amupitan said the next priority was to ensure that eligible voters could easily obtain their PVCs without unnecessary delays at the Local Government Area level.
He warned that weaknesses in the distribution process could prevent registered Nigerians from exercising their voting rights in the 2027 elections.
According to him, INEC is also upgrading key election technologies to improve voter verification and the transmission of election results.
The commission is further working on its Result Management Systems, including the newly introduced eEC8A platform, as part of efforts to strengthen the management of election results.
Amupitan also said INEC had adopted a “Zero-Failure” logistics strategy for the 2027 polls.
The plan covers the early distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive election materials, transportation, security arrangements and the training of ad-hoc election officials.
He said the measures were designed to ensure that logistical challenges do not disrupt the conduct of the elections.
INEC is expected to continue its preparations across the country as it works towards delivering the 2027 general election.
