African Action Congress presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu is currently receiving medical treatment in France, amid questions over the President’s extended stay outside Nigeria.

Sowore made the claim during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Monday, saying he had information that Tinubu was in a hospital but could not disclose the nature of the alleged ailment.
The opposition politician linked his claim to the President’s prolonged absence from Nigeria, arguing that Tinubu’s continued stay abroad had generated concerns among Nigerians.
Sowore also alleged that some of the President’s appearances had been arranged to give the impression that he was actively carrying out his duties, drawing comparisons with the periods when former Presidents Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Muhammadu Buhari spent extended periods away from the country for medical reasons.
Tinubu left Nigeria on August 30 for London before proceeding to Paris, France, where he has held meetings with French officials and business interests.
The Presidency initially announced a three-week working vacation and later said the President had extended his stay by a few days.
The Presidency has, however, dismissed concerns about Tinubu’s health, with Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, saying the President is “hale and hearty” and has continued to handle official matters while abroad.
Onanuga said Tinubu’s engagements in France had included meetings with investors and work connected to the proposed Gateway Deep Seaport and Blue Marine Special Economic Zone in Ogun State, while insisting that the President did not have to be physically present in Abuja to perform his duties.
Sowore’s hospitalisation claim has not been publicly supported by medical evidence, while the Presidency maintains that Tinubu remains well and is expected to return to Nigeria this week.
