Olu Jacobs: Family Announces Funeral Dates

The family of late veteran actor Olu Jacobs has announced October 2, 2026, as the date for his funeral.

Jacobs will be laid to rest following a Night of Tributes scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, at Glover Memorial Hall, 19 Marina Road, Lagos Island.

The Night of Tributes will begin at 4 p.m., with the family choosing shades of blue as the dress code for the event.

The funeral service will hold at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 2, at This Present House, Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State. The dress code for the funeral is shades of green.

Ahead of the ceremonies, Jacobs’ widow, veteran actress Joke Silva, has formally invited President Bola Tinubu to attend the events.

In a letter dated September 23, 2026, and addressed to the President, Silva expressed the family’s appreciation for Tinubu’s condolence message following Jacobs’  death and for his recognition of the late actor’s contribution to Nigeria’s creative industry.

She said the President’s condolence message and prayers had brought comfort to the family during the difficult period.

Silva invited Tinubu to join the family at the Night of Tributes and funeral service as they celebrate Jacobs’ life, his contribution to the Nigerian creative industry and the legacy he left behind.

“Your Excellency’s presence would be a great honour to our family and would mean a great deal to us as we gather to pay our final respects to a man who devoted over five decades of his life to the arts and to the enrichment of Nigeria’s cultural heritage,” Silva wrote.

Naija Metro News had reported that Jacobs died on September 16, 2026, at the age of 84. His family announced his death in a statement shared on Instagram, describing him as “The Lion of Lufodo” and requesting privacy as they mourned.

Born on July 11, 1942, Jacobs built a career spanning more than five decades in theatre, television and film. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London before appearing in British television productions and international films.

He later became a prominent figure in Nigeria’s film and theatre industry, with a career that included numerous stage, television and Nollywood productions.

Jacobs was also a recipient of the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic.
