Polytechnic Expels 42 Students For Exam Malpractice

Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has expelled 42 students over examination malpractice after the institution concluded its disciplinary process on cases involving the students.

Those affected include 31 Higher National Diploma students and 11 National Diploma students from different institutes and academic programmes within the polytechnic.

The disciplinary action was taken after the Examination Malpractice Committee investigated allegations against the students and established their culpability, with the final decision approved under the institution’s regulations.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by Ibrahim Esin, Principal Assistant Registrar, Academic Board Matters Division of the polytechnic.

According to Esin, the students were found guilty following the investigations, while their actions were deemed contrary to the Matriculation Oath administered to students at the point of admission.

The Institute of Finance and Management Studies had the largest number of affected students, accounting for 23 expulsions, while eight students were expelled from the Institute of Technology.

The Institute of Information and Communication Technology and the Centre for Continuing Education recorded four expulsions each. Two students from the Institute of Health Technology and one from the Institute of General Studies were also affected.

The expelled students were drawn from courses including Mechatronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Journalism and Media Studies, Public Administration, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Accountancy, Electrical/Electronic Engineering and Medical Imaging Technology.

The management subsequently ordered the affected students to return all polytechnic property in their possession to their respective Heads of Department or any other officials designated to receive them.
