Recall that Funke was not among the guests at the premiere held in Lagos on Sunday, prompting speculation on social media about the state of her relationship with Kamo.
Kamo state, however, said Funke was out of the country and dismissed suggestions that her absence was connected to a disagreement between them.
In a statement shared on X on Monday, Kamo said, “I woke up to see different opinions online about Iyamii and myself. Please, we’re on good terms.”
He explained that the actress had spoken with him about the premiere and planned to support the movie despite being unable to attend.
He said, “She missed my premiere simply because she wasn’t in the country and nothing more to it, so please don’t assume otherwise.
“We’ve spoken about it, and she’s going to support this film. I’d appreciate it if our personal relationship isn’t speculated on. Let’s keep our focus on the film.”
Kamo and Funke became closely associated during the production and promotion of Everybody Loves Jenifa in 2024. Kamo featured in the film as Lebe and subsequently appeared in other projects associated with Funke, including Aiyetoro Town Season 2 and Behind The Scenes.
Star Lomo, directed by Kayode Kasum, is Kamo’s first cinema project. The film also features Mike Afolarin, KieKie, Lateef Adedimeji, Folake Babatunde and former Big Brother Naija housemate Koyin Sanusi. It is scheduled to open in cinemas nationwide on September 25.
