Tinubu Has Done Far Worse Than Abacha – Dele Momodu

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Dele Momodu, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu’s administration poses greater concerns for Nigeria’s democracy than the military government of the late General Sani Abacha.

Momodu made the claim on Wednesday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time, where he criticised the President’s political conduct and compared it with Abacha’s rule between 1993 and 1998.

The former presidential aspirant accused Tinubu of using political pressure to secure support from Nigerians and other political stakeholders, arguing that the President’s approach resembled the tactics employed during the former military regime.

According to him, the President’s determination to remain in power has resulted in what he described as coercive political practices.

“Tinubu is doing exactly what Abacha did: coercing everyone because he wants to be President,” Momodu said.

He also faulted the ruling All Progressives Congress, claiming that the current administration had surpassed Abacha’s government in its alleged excesses.

“President Tinubu has done far worse than what Abacha did,” the ADC chieftain said, reiterating his criticism of the President and the ruling party.

Momodu further alleged that Tinubu had consolidated excessive influence over the executive, legislature and judiciary, raising questions about the separation of powers under the current administration.

“Tinubu has virtually taken over everything, including the executive, the legislature and the judiciary,” he added.
