Polyibadan SUG, Students Laud DSA, Management Over Digitalized Biometric Student ID Card

The Student Union Government, and students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan has applauded the members of the management board of the institution over the implementation of a new digitalized biometric Identity card system.

The Student Union President, Comr. Adedeji Azeez speaking on behalf of the entire student populace of the institution gave kudos to the management and the Directorate of Student Affairs for coming up with such technological - driven initiative in the institution. 

Comr. Adedeji who gave his comment during an inspection to the data capturing exercise at the North Campus Assembly Hall, of the institution on Thursday maintained that the initiative is 'a round peg in a round hole.'

"We are a great citadel of learning with many years of proven technological innovations. It is my joy that it is this period we start making use of these ideas to benefit and bring about progress to student welfarism in the institution.

"I am convinced that with this idea, The institution would have a grip of the entire student data and it will help minimize the menace of insecurity on campus." - he said. 

He further stressed that the Directorate of Student Affairs, The Polytechnic, Ibadan has embarked on choices and initiative that sees to the betterment of Student's in the institution."

Speaking on what precipitates the initiative, The Dean, of Student Affairs, Mr. John Akinwunmi Makinde in an interview with Naija Metro News stressed that the idea is to provide a conducive and enabling environment for students of the institution to learn and get educated on campus.

Makinde added that the institution is set to rebrand and the implementation of the digital ID Card would solve 70% of the problems the institution is currently facing.

"This initiative will give the students a sense of belonging and will help us curb insecurity in the institution. Many problems the students are facing borders around this and the institution after this would be able to know who is who. 

"We have started data capturing for students in HND2 and ND2. All bona-fide students would be made to registered and will be compelled to hang their identity card on their neck.

" Student won't be allowed to attempt examination without their ID card. The database of all students have been attached to their card, and a second scanning of the ID with a digital scanner will bring all details out. With this we would be able to trace insecurity and bring it to the nearest minimum in the institution. 

" Even in cases of emergency, it will be very swift to get in contact with the institution and derive the identity of all student. I believe this initiative is worth it."

Speaking on the coming SUG Election, Makinde cleared the air, stressing further that students won't be disenfranchised and any bona-fide student would have the opportunity to cast their votes to their preferred candidates without any fear or intimidation.

Students from various faculties of the institution expressed their reactions on the initiative and commend the efforts of the management for a job well done.

Other members of the inspection team includes, Immediate President; Department of Mass Communication, Comr. Kehinde Ayanboade, Chief of Staff to the SUG President; Comr. Salami Mateen, Special Adviser on Academic; Comr. Adedeji Moronfoluwa, and S.A Special Duties; Comr. Tola Babalola amongst others.
