In a move to foster relationship and corroborate the development of their alma mata, graduates from the Department of Computer Engineering at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, have officially launched their Alumni Association.
This significant event was marked by a visit from representatives of the graduates to the department, where they were warmly received by the Head of Department (HOD), Engr. O. A. Busari, alongside the immediate past HOD, Engr. D. A. Oladosu, and other lecturers including Engr. A. O. Mowemi and Miss M. Oyetosho.
Expressing his delight at the initiative, the Head of Department, Engr. Busari acknowledged the efforts of the organizers and representatives, highlighting the potential of the alumni association to drive development within the department and among its graduates.
He further emphasized the importance of creating job opportunities and networking platforms to support one another.
Engr. Oladosu in his remarks stressed the need for a blueprint and constitution for the alumni to guide their activities and ensure sustainability.
While addressing the meeting, The leader of the representatives, Mr. Stephen Aboh, urged the department to actively involve the alumni in its development efforts, assuring that the body is committed to working closely with the department to achieve greater success.
Engr. Mowemi in his remarks encouraged the alumni to seize opportunities to assist students in need of jobs or experience in various fields and organizations.
Miss Modupe emphasized the importance of inclusivity, advocating for the involvement of all graduates since the department's accreditation, both at the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) levels.
The alumni body has pledged to establish a leadership team responsible for maintaining communication with the department and students.
Additionally, the HOD announced that the department will celebrate its 15th anniversary in a few months, an event that will prominently feature the alumni body.
“The celebration will include the creation of an official anthem and other significant activities.” He added.
The department has invited representatives from the alumni body to participate in planning these events to ensure a successful process.
The spokesman of the alumni body, Yusuf Afenifere, assured the HOD that they would follow up after finalizing their preparations.
The event was attended by representatives from the Alumni body, current stakeholders of the department, and the HOD along with other lecturers.
