BREAKING: Tinubu, Osibanjo, Atiku, Others Attend As Buhari Laid to Rest in Daura (PHOTOS)

The remains of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, have been buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State. 

The janaza (Islamic funeral prayer) for the late Nigerian leader was conducted at approximately 4:50 pm on Tuesday before his body was lowered into the grave in accordance with Islamic rites .

Buhari’s body had earlier arrived in Katsina from London aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft, accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and other top government officials. 

His corpse was received amid tight security, with armoured vehicles, DSS operatives, and heavily armed soldiers stationed along key roads leading to Daura.

President Bola Tinubu, who also arrived in Katsina on Tuesday afternoon, attended the funeral alongside Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

A high-powered delegation from the Republic of Niger was likewise present, underscoring Buhari’s influence beyond Nigeria’s borders.

The Emir of Daura, Umar Faruk and that of Katsina, Abdilmuminu Kabi were also at the burial.

Other prominent Nigerians who were in Daura to pay their last respects are; Former vice presidents Atiku Abubakar and Yemi Osibanjo, former Senate President Ahmad Lawan, former Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Ali Pantami; former Governor of Rivers State and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun; and Ali Modu Sheriff, former Governor of Borno State and former PDP National Chairman.

Others are Yahaya Bello, former Governor of Kogi State, Aliyu Wammako, former Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, former Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Masari, former Governor of Katsina State, Kayode Fayemi, former Governor of Ekiti State and Pauline Tallen, former Deputy Governor of Plateau State and former Minister of Women Affairs.

Buhari died on Sunday at the popular The London Clinic. He died at the age of 82.

The late president was Nigeria’s second-longest-serving president, having ruled the West African country as a military leader between January 1984 and August 1985 and as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023.
