Lagos State University (LASU) has terminated the appointments of two lecturers over serious breaches, including financial misconduct, sexual harassment, and mistreatment of students.
The dismissals wereapproved during the institution’s 143rd Statutory Meeting of the Governing Council, held on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
The Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Emmanuel Fanu, disclosed this in an official statement.
Among those dismissed is Dr. Olatunji Abanikanda, who previously served as Dean of the School of Agriculture at LASU’s Epe campus.
He was found guilty of subjecting students to degrading conditions during their farm practicals.
A video that circulated online showed students left exposed under harsh weather conditions without proper shelter, food, or water.
The university said Abanikanda made 400-level students stay on the farm from 6:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., even during heavy rainfall.
He also faced allegations of sexually harassing female students, verbally abusing staff and students, and unlawfully collecting money in violation of school policies.
The second affected lecturer is Dr. Khadeejah Kareem-Ibraheem, former coordinator of the Department of Animal Sciences at the Epe campus.
She was accused of breaching official procedures and failing to comply with the approved academic curriculum.
She also allegedly failed to remit over ₦10.6 million generated from farm produce sales to the university’s account, instead keeping the funds in her personal bank account, contrary to the institution’s financial guidelines.
According to the Registrar, the actions of both staff members amounted to gross misconduct, violating LASU’s Conditions of Service for Senior Staff.
The university management emphasized its continued commitment to upholding ethical standards and ensuring accountability across all levels.
