IbadanNorth Bye Election: Only 4 of 436 Registered Voters Cast Votes at ADC Candidate, Akin-Alamu’s Polling Unit

Dexter Akin-Alamu laments Vote Buying, Voters’ Apathy 

Only Four (4) of the Four Hundred and Thirty Six (436) registered voters have cast their vote at the polling unit of the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dexter Akin Alamu in the ongoing Ibadan North Federal Constituency Bye Election as at 1:30pm. 

Speaking to newsmen after casting his vote at unit 27, ward 10 beside Abubakar’s hall, University of Ibadan, Akin-Alamu lamented that the election is genraly marred by low turnout of voters. He further noted that electorates are discouraged to cast their votes due to hunger.

“It is obvious that people are discouraged to vote, people are hungry and instead of coming out to vote, they prioritize going out to their various businesses to make their living. 

“People deserves a form of social security from the government, they are not getting it, and that’s why they are not coming out to vote. The turn out for the election generally from our report is terribly low. I was told i am the fourth person to vote in this polling unit with 436 registered voters.“ he lamented.

He further alleged the case of heavy vote buying in some wards. 

“It is sad that vote buying is heavy without any form of restraint, i have gotten alot of reports that they are selling votes in ward 1,2,3,4, 7 and 8.

“We know that is their style, they have nothing to offer so they decide to put money to them, it is not new in Nigeria. It is only sad that someone can carry a bag of money and distribute comfortably without anyone querying them.” He added.
