Two Feared Killed In Lagos Fresh Cult Clashes

Tension has gripped communities in Lagos after two young men were brutally murdered in separate incidents believed to be linked to cult rivalries.

Residents of Orita Adeba in Lakowe and Sangotedo, both in Ibeju-Lekki, woke up to scenes of violence over the weekend, with fears growing that cult-related killings are spiralling out of control in the area.

According to eyewitness accounts, one of the victims was ambushed near the Lakowe Bus Stop. 

He was hacked with machetes and left to die by the roadside. Disturbingly, the attackers reportedly cut off his right wrist and fled with it.

A local resident, who asked not to be named for safety reasons, told correspondents:

“We don’t sleep peacefully anymore. They left his body in front of everyone to see. People say it was the Aye group behind it, and it’s not the first time. These killings have been going on for weeks.”

A graphic video circulating online showed the deceased, dressed in brown shorts and a white vest, lying in a pool of blood while shocked onlookers recorded the scene.

Another resident, identified only as Fatai, described the killings as an alarming trend in the Ibeju-Lekki axis.

“It’s not new to us anymore. Just days ago, someone else was butchered in Lakowe. This is the third time in a short while. These young men are wasting their lives just to settle scores,” he said.

While the Lakowe killing has been tied to cult rivalry, a second victim was also discovered dead in Sangotedo the same day. 

His body was found by a culvert, dressed in a white singlet and black trousers, according to a video shared on a local Telegram group.

Though the motive behind the Sangotedo incident is unclear, many residents believe it could be part of the same wave of retaliatory attacks.

When contacted, a senior police officer confirmed awareness of the killings but declined to provide full details, promising an update later. As of press time, the Lagos State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement.

The spate of cult violence in Lagos has become a growing concern, with security analysts warning that unchecked clashes could further destabilise communities already battling insecurity.
