The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has berated President Bola Tinubu over what it described as a growing culture of impunity and inconsistency in his administration’s decision-making, accusing him of favouring individuals with questionable reputations at the expense of honest Nigerians.
The opposition party’s criticism followed the President’s withdrawal of the controversial pardon earlier granted to 175 convicts, including drug traffickers, kidnappers, and fraudsters, after widespread backlash over the initial clemency list released on October 11.
PDP’s Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, in a statement on Wednesday, said the confusion surrounding the pardon decision portrays a government that lacks coordination and accountability.
According to him, the reversal only reinforces “the public perception that the Tinubu administration is operating without clear direction or principle.”
He said, “What we are witnessing is a pattern of policy confusion. One morning a directive is announced, by afternoon it’s retracted, and by evening, it’s back under review.
"This inconsistency reflects deep disorganisation within the Presidency and sends the wrong signal to Nigerians.”
Osadolor also accused the government of misplaced priorities, alleging that while national heroes, war veterans, and social activists remain unrecognised, the Tinubu-led administration appears eager to rehabilitate criminals.
He said, “The same government that fails to honour patriots like the late Ken Saro-Wiwa is now granting clemency to convicted murderers and drug dealers. That’s not leadership, it’s a mockery of justice and a betrayal of national values.”
The PDP chieftain argued that the recurring policy reversals across key sectors, ranging from economic to security matters, show a government struggling to maintain coherence.
He continued, “When decisions are made purely for political or personal convenience, the result is chaos.
"Nigerians deserve a government that acts with foresight, not one that experiments with their lives.”
Osadolor further suggested that if President Tinubu cannot provide decisive leadership, he should consider stepping aside in the interest of the nation.
He added, “If the President finds it difficult to steer the country in the right direction, he should have the courage to resign. Leadership is not about clinging to power; it’s about service and results.”
The PDP maintained that the incident underscores what it described as “a disturbing trend of selective justice” and accused the Tinubu administration of protecting allies rather than serving the national interest.
“Nigerians are tired of excuses and experiments. The time has come for accountability, consistency, and genuine governance,” Osadolor declared.
The Presidency has yet to respond officially to the PDP’s comments, but political observers note that the controversy over the clemency list has sparked renewed debate about transparency and decision-making within the Tinubu administration.
