Prioritize Regional Development Above Partisan Politics - Afenifere Tells Southwest Govs

Pa Rueben Fasoranti

The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has urged political leaders across the country, particularly those from the Southwest, to place governance above party allegiance.

The group said leaders should not be engrossed in partisan rivalry but should be judged by their performance and impact on the lives of the people.

Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, made the call on Wednesday at the ongoing two-day Southwest Stakeholders Dialogue in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Fasoranti stressed that ministers and political officeholders from the region must rise beyond party loyalty and ensure fair distribution of federal projects and resources among the states in the zone.

He reminded them that their positions at the federal level should serve as platforms to advance the collective interests of the Southwest rather than narrow partisan considerations.

“Our ministers must never forget that they are not just cabinet officials; they are voices of a people whose aspirations must be fiercely defended. They should prioritize governance over party loyalty for the benefits of the poor masses.

“Work collaboratively with your governors, irrespective of party affiliations, and ensure that federal projects and policies benefit the Southwest equitably,” he said.
