Barr. Basirat Damilola Marshall, daughter of renowned Fuji maestro, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (KWAM1), has declared her intention to contest for a seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Surulere Constituency II in the 2027 general elections.
Marshall, who currently serves as Senior Special Assistant to Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts and Culture, made her ambition known via a campaign flier shared on her social media platforms, where she emphasised youth inclusion and leadership renewal.
In the flier, the legal practitioner signalled the start of her political journey with the message, “The universe favours only the brave, it’s youth O’clock,” suggesting a generational shift in leadership.
Declaring her readiness for public office, Marshall said she was stepping forward to serve the people of Surulere Constituency II with a focus on responsive representation and results-driven governance.
“I am excited to share that I, Barrister Damilola Ayinde Marshall, am stepping forward to serve the good people of Surulere Constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly. I am a woman of excellence and results. I am ready to serve and lead,” she stated.
She highlighted her 12-year experience in legal practice as a foundation for her political aspirations, noting that it has equipped her with a strong understanding of governance, justice, and grassroots needs.
“For 12 years, I have practised as a lawyer, and that experience has shaped my understanding of governance, justice, and the real needs of my people. With this background, I am fully prepared and ready to fight for what truly matters,” she added.
Marshall also positioned herself as a representative of young people, pledging to prioritise youth voices if elected.
“I promise to be the voice of the youths in the House. As a young woman, I believe this is exactly what my people need right now, and that is why I decided to step forward. I listen to the youths because I am one of you, and I understand what we truly need,” she said.
