FG Declares Public Holidays for Eid-el-Fitr Celebration

The Federal Government has announced Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to enable Muslims celebrate the end of the Ramadan fasting period.

The declaration was made on Tuesday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.

In the statement, the minister congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast and urged them to uphold the values of compassion, generosity, peace, tolerance and sacrifice which were emphasised during the holy month.

Tunji-Ojo also called on Nigerians to use the festive period to offer prayers for the country’s peace, unity and continued progress.

He further encouraged citizens to mark the occasion responsibly while showing kindness and support to the less privileged in society.

The minister reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government to promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians as Muslims across the country prepare to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.
