Why I Resigned As Kano Deputy Governor – Gwarzo

Former Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has explained that his decision to step down from office was taken deliberately to prevent political distractions and allow the state government to remain focused on governance.

Gwarzo disclosed that his resignation followed consultations and careful reflection on the prevailing political atmosphere surrounding the administration.

In a letter addressed to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the former deputy governor stated that leaving office was a voluntary decision aimed at safeguarding the stability of the government and preserving public confidence in state institutions.

According to him, the move became necessary to ensure that ongoing government programmes continue without unnecessary controversies that could shift attention away from service delivery.

“My decision was reached after deep reflection and discussions with key stakeholders,” Gwarzo said. 

“At this point, I believe stepping aside is the most responsible path to protect the focus of the administration.”

He maintained that his resignation should not be interpreted as an admission of any wrongdoing, stressing that the decision was purely a matter of principle and commitment to the broader interest of Kano State.

“This step must not be misconstrued as a confession of guilt,” he explained. “Rather, it reflects a conscious choice to strengthen institutional stability and uphold democratic responsibility.”

Furthermore, Gwarzo noted that leadership sometimes requires making difficult personal decisions for the greater public good.

He emphasised that allowing the government to operate without political tension was more important than holding on to office.

 

“Public service is ultimately about the people,” he added. 

“If stepping aside helps maintain calm and ensures the government continues its work effectively, then it is a sacrifice worth making.”

The former deputy governor reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Kano State, saying he remains supportive of the administration’s policies and programmes despite leaving office.

He also expressed appreciation to Governor Yusuf and members of the state executive council for the opportunity to serve, while urging citizens to continue supporting the government’s development agenda.
