Davido, who is a nephew of the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, made the allegation in a post on his verified X account early Saturday.

The singer said he had received information that soldiers were positioned to prevent his movement into the state, insisting that he would not be deterred.

He wrote, “I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow. This won’t happen. Every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point in time.”

The allegation came against the backdrop of movement restrictions imposed by the security authorities ahead of the governorship election.

The Nigeria Police Force had announced that movement across Osun State would be restricted from midnight on Friday until 6pm on Saturday as part of measures to maintain security during the election.

Thousands of police officers and other security personnel were deployed across the state for the poll.

Davido has openly supported his uncle’s bid for a second term, with Adeleke contesting the election on the platform of the Accord Party against the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and other contenders.

Reacting to Davido’s claim, former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, dismissed the allegation as unnecessary drama, arguing that the restriction applied generally to residents and visitors as part of the election security arrangements.

Ahmad maintained that the enforcement of lawful movement restrictions during an election did not amount to a denial of citizens’ rights, urging Davido and others to comply with the security measures.
