The actor, who will turn 80 in March 2027, made the remarks during an interview with TV3, where he recounted how he appealed to the government to assist an ailing colleague.

Edochie said his intervention led to financial support for the colleague, although he did not identify the person involved or specify the government that provided the assistance.

“I was interviewed in my house in Enugu. During that period, one of my colleagues was ill, so I used that opportunity to call on the government to come help him. The following week, the government sent him half a million naira. I’m older than all the governors and president, so when I talk to them, it’s like a father talking to a son,” he said.

The actor has been a prominent figure in Nollywood for decades, featuring in numerous films and television productions.

In October 2026, Edochie also spoke about his health in an interview, saying he was not feeling very well. He did not provide further details about his condition in the remarks reported.
