Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has secured a second term in office after emerging victorious in the governorship election held across the state on Saturday.

The State Returning Officer, Prof Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, declared Adeleke the winner at about 7:24am on Sunday at the state collation centre.
Adeleke, who contested under the Accord platform, secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
The governor won in 19 of the 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji carried nine LGAs. The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished in third position.
Adeleke recorded victories in Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo and Osogbo.
Oyebamiji, on the other hand, won in Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun and Obokun local government areas.
Announcing the final figures, Ogunwole said 1,010,684 voters were accredited, while 985,079 votes were declared valid. He added that 207 votes were rejected, bringing the total votes cast to 1,005,800.
After the results had been endorsed by the agents of the participating political parties, the returning officer formally declared Adeleke elected.
Ogunwole said, “That Ademola Nurudeen-Jackson Adeleke, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election and returned elected.”
The declaration brings to an end the closely contested race for the Osun governorship, with Adeleke set to continue in office for another four-year term.
